Manchester the Hip and Modern City in the West of England

Manchester is on the travel list of many vacationers because the third largest city in England has various stunning sights to offer. It is an attractive city, and thanks to the rich and proud history, there are many cultural attractions and plenty of things one can do here.

Manchester, also called the metropolitan county, is in the west of England, and with a population density of 2.000 inhabitants per square mile one of the 3 most populated cities in Great Britain. Manchester, in its present form, only exists since 1974 and consists of eight so-called boroughs and two cities, City of Manchester and City of Salford.

Manchester is known for its museums and galleries. There are two orchestras in Manchester, the Halle Symphony Orchestra in the modern Bridgewater Hall and the BBC Philharmonica Orchestra. The Lowry Centre is home to museums, galleries and exhibitions, as well as a shopping complex. Further appealing are the Manchester City Art Gallery, Manchester Town Hall, John Ryland’s Library and the Museum Of Science and Industry.

The Trafford Centre offers shops, entertainment and restaurants; all together this is the setting for a fantastic shopping experience under one roof. Subcontent, there are many choices in the city centre, with numerous designer boutiques. However, travellers who are looking for something different should visit the Arndale complex, where they will find everything that they are searching for.

Manchester hotels are well-distributed throughout the entire city. Here, every tourist can find the perfect accommodation fitting his personal budget. Whether one decides to stay at a Bed and Breakfast, a hostel, a standard or luxury hotel, all of them are clean, contemporary and equipped with lots of amenities.

Manchester is also known for its excellent nightlife. Whether a traveller wants to go out with friends and have a drink, or prefers to see a band playing, there are so many options that a splendid night in town is guaranteed. Restaurants and bars are abound, too. No matter what one’s taste-buds are craving, may it be Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Italian or Indian food, the palate will be satisfied.

The city is also famous for two football teams: Manchester United and Manchester City. Moreover, one of England’s greatest football stadiums is located just outside of Manchester. Although Manchester is mainly notorious for soccer, there are more sports, such as track cycling, basketball, athletics and swimming that are respected in this metropolis.

One of the oldest and most watched soap operas is set in Manchester, too. The city even has its own TV station, as well as the most radio stations, after London. The public transportation infrastructure is outstanding in Manchester. There are free buses, shuttles, trams and also trains. The connection to other cities in Britain is spectacular, and the journey to Manchester is easily possible by car, train and even plane.
